Palau To Host 2010 Micronesian Games Print

KOROR (Palau Horizon, Nov. 17, 2008) - President Remengesau issued a Presidential Directive which establishes 2010 Micronesian Games Organizing Committee.

[PIR editor’s note: The Micronesian Games originally were to be hosted by Majuro in the Marshall Islands next year. But cost and other concerns caused the independent state to withdraw and Palau stepped in to host the event.]

Palau has won the bid to host the 2010 Micronesia Games to Palau.

Presidential Directive No.08-03 said that the committee was established to ensure that Palau is fully organized and financially prepared to host the Micronesian Games.

The organizing committee is will be composed of Patrick Tellei, Palau Community College President (PCC), Alexander Merep Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs; Frank Kyota, president of the Palau National Olympic Committee; Sinton Solablai, Chief of the Division of School Management, Ministry of Education; Techur Rengulbai, Director of the Bureau of Public Works Ministry of Resources and Development; Brian Melairei, manager of Capital Improvement Project Office; Norvert Yano and Director of the Bureau of Public Safety.

The committee will also be composed of one representative from the Ministry of Health, Bureau of Foreign Affairs, Office of the President and the Koror State Youth Council.

The first initial meeting of the Organizing Committee is set on November 25, 2008.

The committee shall plan and coordinate with Palau National Olympic Committee, national government, the community and the Micronesian Games Council to collaborate efforts to ensure that Palau’s hosting responsibilities are organized well-prepared and will meet the requirements of Micronesian Games council charter for hosting the game.
